The appointment making process is slow and antiquated, surely one should be able to do it online the way that one can for a GP

Although I can understand the busy and stressful nature of working in A&E may affect the staff attitudes etc, I felt many were very cold, rude and unsympathetic. The doctors themselves were not very kind and reassuring. And one of the nurses was especially rude by almost scoffing at my genuine concern. The waiting time was very long. Other times that I have come to the hospital as an out-patient to meet with consultants were very good. The consultants were all very kind and helpful and addressed my concerns and questions well. Some of the nurses were not as kind but much kinder than those who worked in A&E. The waiting time was also quite long but this was more understandable than at A&E. The reception staff were also not very approachable and they directed many patients to the wrong ward (but this may be because they were fairly new). I just think that the beside manners of the staff needs to improve, it's a daunting enough process for many patients to go the hospital without being made uncomfortable by some of the staff.

Everything I needed was provided where and when it was supposed to be. I saw staff meet problems and challenges and work through them with good manners and direct confident communication and care. I have relied on this hospital for many years and have always had the greatest confidence in the care provided for me and my family and friends. I hope it grows and remains to be a place of safety and great treatment for those in need.

I was not impressed by the way the reception corridor is run. This seemed understaffed and the staff that were there could do with more of a spring in their step, and more helpful. Also the appointment reception had a long queue.

My family have used the hospital twice in the past year. My daughter had a baby there and my husband was operated on in the day surgery unit. My daughter praised the help, skill and friendliness of the doctors and nurses. My husband was particularly impressed with the amount of information he was given during his day surgery visit. He was kept informed about each procedure before it happened. The staff were friendly but also extremely efficient. One expects the skill of the surgeon and the anaesthetist as a given - but that they took the time to explain what they were going to do....and then what they had done. It was better than private medicine. Thankyou Kingston.

I attended Kingston Hospital Radiology Department for a scan and removal of some cells from a lump in my neck, I found the receptionists pleasant and professional. I have already written a review of Doctor Colin Todd and his staff (positive). I found my visit to Kingston Hospital to be a very relaxing, professional experience.

My wife had premature twins at Kingston hospital. The delivery team and neo-natal team were absolutely professional and kind and helpful too. I cannot recommend them highly enough. The neo-natal ward was very clean, the four stars are due to the recovery room being below par in places.

Everyone from Reception to surgeons are very friendly. I just think the car parking charges are outrageous - especially in the evenings and for A&E. I have an elderly mother who is regularly taken from the care home to A&E and I have to spend vast sums of money to be with her on these occasions. Very often I do not have sufficient change to pay and therefore pay well over the charge just to be with her. I think there should be A&E concessions.

Most reviews, especially the positive ones, of this hospital seem to relate to children, labour or out-patients. My experience was that adult wards are quite another matter. The doctors involved in my partner's very serious illness were either largely absent (great lengths were taken to prevent me knowing that the consultant in charge was on a month's holiday at a crucial time; even then he was rarely in the hospital) or dangerously inadequate: those left, including the inexperienced registrar, had totally inadequate knowledge of the disease - my partner almost died and his condition certainly made significantly worse through a totally inappropriately excessive dose of a dangerous drug. Over many months I was unable to make an appointment to talk to the consultant (when he was back) and hence unable to discuss moving my partner to another hospital where he might have had a chance of recovery from all that had been done to him in Kingston hospital. Sadly, I got to know spouses/partners of others in the same ward whose experiences were similar to ours. Some of the nurses were wonderful - and deserve medals. Together they and I almost nursed him back to recovery, until yet more new and inexperienced doctors again intervened with inexperienced and harmful pharmacology. My disgust with this hospital chiefly lies in the poor level of care my partner received from the doctors. But in addition, the treatment and care appointed to me when my partner was then dying was no less than disgraceful - all the nursing staff with whom I'd built up a close relationship over so many months were withdrawn and I was left, with no explanation of what was happening, to see him die with no support at the time or immediately after. My subsequent complaints received nothing but a whitewash response, clearly largely written by the consultant of whom I'd complained, when all I asked for was an admission that things could have been done better and would be reviewed such that no-one else had to experience what we did. I am sure there are some excellent and highly committed doctors at this hospital, but I would advise anyone to check them out first - in case you are unfortunate enough to find yourself under the consultant responsible for my wonderful but now deceased partner. Better care, and possibly my partner being alive today, would have resulted from greater consultant involvement and specialisation, rather than leaving serious chronic illnesses to young inexperienced doctors. Our entire experience was a disgrace to the so-called caring medical profession. I therefore cannot recommend this hospital.
